Ever since I posted the article “Why I am Voting for Manny Villar“, I’ve been getting a lot of comments. Mostly a mix of positive and negative. It’s good to see that the entry was able to rally the online supporters of Senator Manny Villar. I honestly don’t mind the negative comments because I’m used to it. However I find it really disappointing and a bit frustrating that friends, colleagues, and acquaintances would judge your character because of your choice of President. Supporting a particular candidate does not make you more or less than anyone else. Judging your friends because they pick a certain candidate is just… nevermind.
I mean seriously guys think about the consequences of judging a friend or a colleague because of politics? At the end of the day the value of life is found in the relationships that we make and the lives that we touch. When you are in your death bed you won’t be looking for the person that you voted for. You’ll be looking for your friends and family. Politics is just temporary – it only happens every 3 years. Would you judge a person and end a potential relationship just because of his choice of candidate? Would you sacrifice whatever moments and experiences that you can share together just because of something as simple as that?
What’s more shameful? Voting for a candidate that you believe in or ending a friendship because of a difference in political opinon?
Don’t let politics take priority over friendships, relationships, and love. Electing our leaders is definitely a big responsibility but respecting our friends and colleagues is more important. Let’s keep our eyes on the things that matter the most please.

Agreed. Like Voltaire said, “I do not agree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”
It’s unfortunate that politics have turned a few into fanatics, allowing their emotions to rule over reason. I hope that concerned candidates will return the favor by uniting the deeply politically divided nation.
Election season can really bring out the worst or best in us. People can be so emotional and petty about things. Like I said in my blog post we need to be “mature” about this election.
Good post Carlo.
I beg to disagree. One’s choice of candidate says a lot about a person. It reveals one’s values and even intellect.
The problem in this country is our choice of candidates is not based on research of platforms. It is based on popularity, winnability, and for the big wigs, what’s in it for me mentality.
Peace!
Last April 27, 2010, I wrote a post entitled “Bloggers’ Choice This Coming 2010 Election “and this post contained a poll. The poll is about who among the candidates running for president and vice-president were chosen by different Filipino bloggers. I want to thank the bloggers who voted, participated and commented on this poll, as a matter of fact, a total of 211 bloggers participated. As of 1:45 p.m today, May 7, 2010, I officially closed the poll, and now I present to you the results. Please click the link

It sucks big time having to defend your choice of candidate, not just for President, to other people, especially to friends.
It sucks even more that you have to tread lightly while talking about candidates when you’re with friends for fear of offending them.
Sad to say, I’ve offended some very good friends for expressing my opinion of their candidate, but there’s just no going around it.
I guess this is the reason why most of us just choose to shut our traps instead of openly debating our choices (which is supposed to be healthier).
