Tribute Ebook for my late Grandfather

February 3 is just around the corner and that’s actually the birthday of my late grandfather, Senator Blas F. Ople. As a tribute, I’m currently working on a short e-book which will expound on one of his most powerful speeches – the 7 keys to success. This is the speech he gives during commencement (graduation) exercises. Over the past few years I’ve read so many books on self-help, marketing, and management. I just realized that a lot of the major concepts in those books are actually all in his speech.

I actually regret not spending enough time with him. Now I have to content myself with reading his books and speeches when I could have spent hours, days, months, and years learning from him. Anyway, the e-book is a free download which should be available on February 3. I’ll do my best to finish it by then.

Wish me luck!

Senator Pimentel’s sex joke against Senator Roxas and wife

I would just like to take this opportunity to strongly “censure” and express my disappointment and disgust over Senator Pimentel’s sex joke in the Senate session against Senator Mar Roxas and his wife, Korina Sanchez. The sacred halls of the Senate is not the place for such ungentlemanly, rude, and disrespectful conduct. I would understand if the joke was directed at an issue that involved national interest but this was just plain stupid. There was absolutely no reason for Pimentel to bring that up during the plenary debates. I mean… come on. I used to think Senator Pimentel had a lot of class as a statesman but now I’m seriously having second thoughts.

From ABS CBN Interactive:

“My name was mentioned in the context that we are ganging up, that this is all political, that we are using insertions, when he (Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano) said in a blanket statement that we had insertions,” Roxas said.

“I say no. I had no insertion on any matter. In fact, I have no insertion, period. Because we’re in the minority! Let alone an insertion for a road to pass through any such property,” Roxas said.

Pimentel answered: “Well, well, I am sure that after your marriage, you had some insertions.”

“But that may be different,” he added.

The comment prompted laughter from those seated in the gallery, but angered Roxas. “That is an affront on my wife (Korina Sanchez), Mr. President!” he said.

I hope that Senator Pimentel realizes that as a Senator he has to properly conduct himself. Making brazen sexual innuendos sets a very bad example to the Filipino youth. Whatever trust, faith, and respect I had for you sir you just trashed with how you acted in today’s session.

Face the Senate and fight Senator Villar!

I think it’s no secret that I’m a supporter of Senator Manny Villar. With that in mind, I think the worst thing I can do as a blogger is to just shut up and not talk about any issues hounding him. However, I won’t go blindly defending him as well since that will literally just look stupid. While I have reservations as to the timing of the case being filed against him, I can’t help but wonder why can’t Senator Villar go to the Senate and fight it out with the other senators who are going after him. I’ve read the defense documents and they are pretty strong so I’m really puzzled why he won’t just go to the Senate with what he has.

I strongly agree with Congressman Satur Ocampo asking Senator Villar to defend himself in the Senate. There is really no point in just defending himself in the media and everywhere else because ultimately the arbiter of his case will be the Senate. If he continues to avoid the confrontation, I have a strong feeling that the numbers he’s gained over the past few weeks will start to slide down. Filipinos like underdogs… but to be considered as one, you have to be in the fight!

JAMBY CALLS OUT MANNY: “FACE ME MAN-TO-MAN”

To Senator Villar, lace up your boots, wear your gloves, get in the ring, and fight.

Who is this road rager man riding SUV with plate number MLP 636?

These pictures of a man riding an SUV with plate number MLP 636 threatening another person in another car is now making the rounds on Facebook. This was originally posted online by Ira Panganiban. I don’t have the complete story but apparently the guy in the SUV is threatening him with his gun after a “traffic disagreement”. Very timely for this since Jason Ivler was just recently apprehended in his house. I wonder how long it will take before the man in this picture is identified and maybe caught? If more bloggers and social network people spread this around, then traditional media will definitely pick it up and feature it on the news programs. That would definitely bring all the details out. Here are the complete pictures for your perusal:

Don’t you just love social media?

Press Secretary Cerge Remonde passes away

It’s a week full of surprises. First, Jason Ivler was finally caught by the NBI and they found him in the most obvious place – his house. Then the Senate releases a draft report finding Senator Villar guilty of the C5 controversy (which I’ll talk about on a separate entry). And now Press Secretary Cerge Remonde just passed away this morning. There are no details yet on what caused the death – he was just found unconscious in his office in Malacanang.

Let’s all pray for Sec. Remonde and the family and friends that he’s left behind. :(

BREAKING NEWS [UPDATE]: According to ANC, Sec. Remonde is in the hospital and that they’re trying to revive him. There’s a chance that he can still recover. Let’s all offer our prayers so that he pulls through.

[UPDATE 2] The doctors failed to revive Sec. Remonde. He was officially declared dead 11:51AM. Let’s all pray for him and his family.

Husband of Assunta de Rossi always absent in Congress

Negros Occidental Congressman Julio “Jules” Ledesma is the number 1 absentee in the lower house. What’s infuriating is that despite the “dishonor” of having the most absences, he insists that he’s a hard worker and that he’s doing a good job despite never being at the session hall. He goes on to explain that he’s been “following up” the development of a bio-energy plant in San Carlos. What I don’t quite understand is that doesn’t he have vested interest in that project since the main companies that would supply sugarcane to the plant would by the Ledesma Hermanos Agricultural Corp. and Gamboa Hermanos Inc?

If he really wanted to do projects outside of the session hall, then Ledesma should have run for a local executive position instead of a legislative one. The primary responsibility of lawmakers are… guess what? MAKING LAWS. And you can’t make laws if you’re not in the session hall.

What kind of example does Ledesma set for the youth or his constituents? It’s okay never to be at work?

Juan on one with Mar Roxas (ABS CBN)

I’m a staunch supporter of Senator Mar Roxas who’s running under the Liberal Party for the Presidency. I don’t think that will ever change even if my auntie is now under Nacionalista running under Senator Villar. I’ll probably write a post later on explaining why Mar is getting my vote but for now let me just share with everyone the interview he had on ABS CBN with veteran broadcaster Ted Failon (Juan on one). In this video, they have a 10 minute chat on various topics, including Mar’s plans for 2016 and his marriage with Korina Sanchez.

Okay, let me just say that this was a wasted opportunity. I noticed that most of the questions being asked by the media in interviews like this revolve around the show biz aspect of politics. They talk more about chismis and issues as opposed to the actual plans and platforms of the candidates. Hopefully this can change later on.

As advice to Senator Roxas’ team, maybe you guys can tell Mar to be more lively on TV, haha. Truth be told, if you’re not a supporter, you might find him a bit boring, hehe :P
