Jesus is Lord (JIL) leader Brother Eddie Villanueva formally announced his intentions to run for President in 2010 in a press conference in Barasoain Church in Malolos, Bulacan. This officially makes him the third charismatic religious leader that’s joining the race for the highest position in the country in 2010. He joins the ranks of Pampanga Governor Ed Panlilio and El Shaddai’s Brother Mike Velarde. The leader of JIL explained that he got cheated out of the 2004 elections and that he’s determined to win the elections this time around. He will be the standard bearer of the Bangon Pilipinas Movement.

MANILA – Jesus is Lord Movement founder Bro. Eddie Villanueva on Friday formally announced his bid to run in the May 2010 presidential election.
In a gathering in Barasoain Church compound in Malolos, Bulacan, Villanueva said he has accepted the nomination of Bangon Pilipinas party as its standard bearer at next year’s presidential elections.
This is not the first time that Villanueva will run for the highest elective post in the country. The spiritual leader ran and lost in the 2004 presidential election, which saw then-incumbent President Gloria Arroyo win a fresh mandate.
In his speech, Villanueva said massive cheating marred the 2004 elections, which saw him get zero votes in Cavite and Pangasinan despite having many supporters there. “The cheating in 2004 furthered my resolve to run again,” he said in an interview after his acceptance speech.
Bangon Pilipinas is a political party which is not solely dominated by members or officials of Jesus is Lord Movement. Its senatorial slate includes former Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Perfecto Yasay Jr., Tom Meneses of the Seventh-Day Adventista and Ramoncito Ocampo, a lay preacher of the charismatic group, El Shaddai.
Asked if Bangon Pilipinas is open to an alliance with the popular El Shaddai movement of Bro. Mike Velarde, Villanueva said: “Bukas kami sa anumang alyansa, basta ang partidong makakasama namin ay consistent sa aming vision at mission na good governance.”
Bangon Pilipinas is now preparing a shortlist of aspirants in its Vice-Presidential slot, which will be announced on October in Plaza Miranda, when the party launches its full-blown campaign.

With all three of them in the race, they’re just reducing the chances of the opposition in winning the top post in 2010. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the administration candidate is able to win again because the opposition vote is split up among a lot of candidates.
I personally believe that these three men are doing a great disservice to this country by doing what they’re doing. That’s just my personal opnion. They have the right to run, but I really don’t believe that they have the training, competencies, and experience needed for the Presidency.

Humble but illustrious beginning
What was the basic educational background of Bro. Eddie? Bro. Eddie completed tertiary education at the Philippine College of Commerce (PCC), now PUP, where he was a student leader and consistent academic scholar. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Commerce, major in Economics and minor in Finance, in 1969. He was adjudged PCC’s “Best Debater of the Year” (SY 1967-1968).

I will defend the right you invoke to speak out your mind.
Allow me the courtesy to plead for open mindedness before we ‘convict, judge and banish’ those who do not have the same mind set as we do.
First, it is too early to say who really are running for the Presidency. Lets wait until the filing of candidacy in November.
Second, I agree with you that we have to evaluate all candidates on the basis of their competence, character and courage.
Third, a widow who was accused of ‘knowing nothing’ eventually guaranteed and strengthened the right to say what you just said. Am sure if you contradicted the palace during pre-Cory years, you’d be out in the cold. President Cory, a widow who didnt occupy any public office prior to the Presidency, took the challenge and here we are, we can speak as free as we can.
Last, how I wish we would have a College for the Presidency. Many lawyers have been presidents. We even had an actor, a military man, an economist, even a former DND Secretary. Many, before they became such (i.e., President) were unconvinced of their capacities only to be shown that not a few really did well. But then, none had the degree on AB on Presidency. I didnt also see that in the qualifications to ran for that office in our Constitution.
As a media practitioner who has the capacity to evolve public opinion, I hope you my friend can allot the same leeway you do to a Senator-candidate, with a pending case before the ethics committee, a Senator-candidate who can ride a tricycle, a Senator who can speak eloquently in English and Pilipino, and to the rest.
I am sure, more than proving we’re right, we’d rather convince people to be more discriminating, more inquisitive and open-minded before the right to vote is exercised. But then we have to know the whole story first before we ‘shoot’.
More power to you.
Did I read it right, Is Bro Eddie’s competence and leadership now in question? Let me remind you that JIL Church started with only 15 students and now 2009, it has made its presence felt nationwide and in 44 countries. He manages Zoe TV 11 and was able to maintain it without compromise. Is that not leadership? If you call his GENUINE LOVE FOR GOD AND ABILITY TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO MORAL CHANGE as lack of training and experience, then I don’t blame why our country is in the pit of almost hell with the kind of “leaders” that juan dela cruzes choose during elections.
I perfectly believe that the gates of Malacanang in 2010 will be shut to candidates with evil schemes carrying guns, goons, golds, greed for power alone.
God bless the Philippines.
Why is it that most of the forums criticizing Eddie C. Villanueva always saying it’s better for him to just stay in church and leave politics alone? Doesn’t he have any rights? Someone call him names such as that he is greedy in power and have political ambitions using the church to have his ambitions in realization… Well this is a point to ponder, why people always shutting righteous people to join in politics just because of his religious background… Don’t you think that is fair.. Anyways he is pure Filipino… He has the right that should be equal to other presidential aspirants have. That’s freedom…Any presidential aspirants also have their religions anyways…Why aren’t the others being criticized by their religions as well.. And, what do we like our leaders to be like, to be run by the lesser evil ones? Evil is still evil… Temptations are huge if you are in so much power and eventually get overwhelmed by it and be easily persuaded unless you have firm convictions.
And regarding the qualifications like training, competencies etc…Do you think that qualifications are good enough?? I don’t think so… Even you are experienced enough but if you do not possess a heart and passion for our country, well it will be just a series of repeated traditional politics and no genuine service for Filipino people..
He can run. Fine. He has the right to do that.
But when someone claim’s to have heard “voices” telling him to run, they’d I’d seriously doubt the sanity of said someone.
And what’s this? A platform based on religious morality??
The last thing I want is the Philippines finally turning into a full-fledged Christian Taliban. Keep religion out of the Government please.
