Coming fresh from a coffee session with Senator Manny Villar, I wasn’t expecting to be part of another political blogging event anytime soon. However, I was able to get an invite to another event for another potential contender for the 2010 elections. This time it was the youngest presidential aspirant – Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero. In our session, Chiz talked about a wide array of topics both personal and political. We talked about his previous romantic relationships, his reaction on the infamous “Le Cirque Dinner”, his plans in 2010, and a lot of other things. Everything about the “Chiz Experience” after the break.
The Presidency
Let’s get the biggest issue out of the way. Will he run for president in 2010? He wants to and he is planning for a campaign in 2010 for the presidency. Is he qualified? Yes, he is. He will turn 40 this October and that’s the only requirement that he has to legally pass to run for the highest position in the country. Asked the question who he would want to become his running mate (VP), he quickly names Senator Noynoy Aquino. In the event that Chiz wouldn’t run for 2010, he explains that he wants Noynoy to be the next President. Interesting choice don’t you think? Will Noynoy leave the Liberal Party to join forces with Chiz? Only time will tell.
He’s Just Too Young!
This is probably the next biggest issue. He explains this very well and I think this is the part where he got my attention. Chiz explains that in politics, you don’t get better. You just get worse as you stay longer in it. He wants to run for President while he still has his ideals and values in check. Makes perfect sense to me. He should gun for it while he has the “pure” fire in his belly and his heart. I have to admit that he was able to inspire me at this point in our conversation. It’s no wonder that this guy has insane rapport with the Filipino youth.
Chiz to Quit Politics if He Loses
Here’s another interesting bit of information. According to Chiz, he made a promise to his wife that he would turn his back on politics for good should he run in 2010 for President and lose. Agree with him on this one. He’s still young and he can actually still live a long good life outside of politics even if he loses in 2010.

Overall I have to say I had a lot of fun talking to Senator Escudero. His charm and warm demeanor was something that I never expected. He was able to quickly get us comfortable with his funny jokes and “hirits”. He was also on the same page when we would talk about he latest social media instruments available for politics. Out of all the politicians I’ve talked with in the last 20+ years in my life, Chiz is the first one that I can easily identify with.
Man… the choice on who to vote for in 2010 is getting harder each time I talk to the other candidates. Hahaha. Oh well. Thanks to Rochelle for the pictures and the invite. It was really a pleasure hanging out with Senator Chiz Escudero.
Notes for the Organizers
This is a new format for blogger events. It wasn’t really fun waiting for more than 3 hours before the session. I strongly suggest that if you want to do events like this in the future (using the same format) you should properly schedule the groups so that the bloggers won’t have to sit idly for so long. Tell them to come in only during the designated time that they’re supposed to talk to your client. I didn’t mind the waiting too much because I was with friends. However if I didn’t know the peeps around me and had to wait for so long, I’d probably leave out of boredom.
