Broadsheets Mix Up Numbers

I never imagined I would be able to get political content from the popular humor blog – Tunay Na Lalake. However, they posted a really interesting picture that I just can’t ignore. In this photo, you’ll see that the top three broadsheets used the Basilan encounter as their main headline. What’s interesting to note is that all three of them had different numbers for the fatalities. MB reports that 53 were killed, PDI says 44, while the Philippine Star shows 54.

Makes you wonder how they get their numbers? Maybe they all had different sources? Or maybe they got their numbers at different times? Who knows. What’s important is that we’re all critical of what we read. We shouldn’t just eat it without thinking about it – regardless if it comes from a blog or a mainstream media outlet.
